Writer's Block: Personal Holidays

  • Oct. 10th, 2008 at 10:38 PM

These days, there's a holiday for everything from punctuation to pie. If you could create your own holiday, what would it be and how would you celebrate?

I would like to create a lazy day holiday...celebrated with a nice hot bath, a magazine, and some good old comfort food :) that would be my dream..oh and no working that day.

Writer's Block: Sharing Haikus

  • Sep. 23rd, 2008 at 12:18 AM

The Japanese haiku poet Basho once wrote, "Old pond / a frog jumps / the sound of water." Try writing some of your own haikus about the little things in your life. A haiku generally consists of a five-syllable line, a seven-syllable line and a second five-syllable line. You can also use any combination of ten-to-fourteen syllables.

Is there a topic you can't stop writing about in your journal? Why do you write about it so much?

What time of day is best? Why?

Early morning (12amish - 4ish) is the best, because I am the only one awake. It allows me time to truly be by myself and think or do whatever.

Writer's Block: Food Loves and Hates

What foods can you not live without, and what foods can you not stomach?

View 500 Answers

Technically speaking, I cannot live without all foods hehe. But in terms of what I love to eat: I love Italian food, Japanese food, and seafood for sure. But foods I will absolutely not eat, hmmmm, there are actually none I can think of right now but there are a couple ( I am not a really picky eater).

Writer's Block: Awesome Openers

  • Jul. 12th, 2008 at 12:23 AM

What are some gripping opening lines from films or books, and why do you think they work so well?

View 500 Answers

A portion of the Prologue to Sister`s Keeper by Jodie Picoult: In The end I did not kill my sister. She did it all on her own. Or at least what I tell myself. - It is not exactly gripping all by itself, but it has a huge impact after the novel is read. Which is why I think it works so well, it makes you think about that line after the novel finishes.
